Pick up a prescription at a VendRx unit
This is what a patient sees at the full-size unit, one screen at a time. Tap through it the way they would. The notes beside the unit explain what happens behind each screen.
Sample patient: Jordan, born March 14, 1985. The patient and prescription are made up.

The prescription arrived before the patient did
The clinician sent the prescription the usual way, through the clinic's existing systems, including Epic and the Surescripts e-prescribing network. A licensed pharmacist at the partner pharmacy reviewed it and approved it for release before the patient walked up.
Every screen runs in English and Spanish. Try the Español button.
Birthdate first, the same way the real screen asks
The patient picks a month, a day, then their birth year from a set of choices. This screen copies the one on units in service today.
It is the same check a pharmacy counter makes: a birthdate and a name. Pick the wrong year to see what happens.
Hint: the sample patient was born March 14, 1985.
Only part of the name is shown
The screen hides most of the name, so someone standing nearby cannot read it. The patient confirms it is them.
No patient data is stored on the unit. Details come from the prescription record for this pickup only.
A pharmacist is one tap away
The medication was approved by a pharmacist before release was possible. The patient can open a video call with a pharmacist from this screen whenever they have a question.
In this demo the call is optional. Where a pharmacist or state rules call for counseling first, the unit requires it before release.
Pay at the unit
The card reader takes any amount due at pickup, whether that is a copay or a cash price. Use the Tap card button on the reader.
Checked, printed, released
Inside the cabinet, each container carries a data matrix barcode with its NDC, lot number, expiration date and serial number. If a container cannot be verified, it cannot be released.
The unit prints the patient's label directly on the container, then drops it into the release bay.
More than 90,700 completed dispenses to date, with zero documented wrong-medication releases.
